It is an awesome day outside, and I'm stuck working on Chapter 8 >:-0

My fault for slacking off on book-writing for the past week.

I will let loose tonight at a Halloween party in San Jose that Aaron and I are spinning at...

Went to the Ghostland show tonight in SF, which was fun -- good to see Thomas again. Begain the evening by meeting up w/ my friend Kesha who reconnected w/ me on MySpace a few days ago - she rememered me from Austin and lives here now. I didn't remember exactly how I knew her, which was ok - because she didn't exactly remember how she know me either! LOL. We did a hair show together and and a video shoot as well, back in like 2002 or something. Anyhow, it turns out one of her roommates is Jay Walker who has put out a few house records that I own. Anyways, they both came to the Ghostland show and had fun, although I didn't see them afterwards hopefully we will connect again. All in all, not bad for a Tuesday night. Glad I stayed home today and don't have a meeting until 11:30 tomorrow...

sunday [Oct. 17th, 2006|11:43 am]
Sunday I went to see Ziggy Marley at the Fillmore. That was a really cool venue, too bad I was sitting down most of the time since I was still feelin the effects of Saturday night... it was a pretty nifty performance though.

WFH today, just went to grab breakfast w/ Aaron and am now about to start doing some writing.

Just got back from a bike show that I scored some free tickets to. It's within walking distance of the crib, so Aaron and I moseyed over there for a couple of hours. Pretty fun, I bought a cool chain :) Afterwards we went to a local Mexican joint which was pretty good. I've now found authentic Mexican and Viatnamese spots within a 10 minute walk from the house. One other conclusion that Aaron and I came to is that we're without question the only white folks in the neighborhood! It's all good though, I dig it here.

Tomorrow I'm going to see Ziggy Marley with a group of about 10 or so.

Tonight we may hit an underground.....

burning man decompression [Oct. 8th, 2006|07:38 pm]
So I missed the 4th quarter of the Cowboy game and went down to the Burning Man Decompression party happening down the road from my place. I went with Vicki and David, her friend from Florida. There must have been a couple thousand people there, it was in a big square block and it was pretty sweet. I haven't been to Burning Man before, but this was a mini-version of it - except being in San Francisco instead of the middle of the desert. All the DJs played breaks, which was odd but the crowd was digging it. We managed to find a cool spot to chill out and dance near one of the soundsystems with a buncha guys rotating on the decks that I had never heard of before but nonetheless were still very good. The costumes were amazing! There was craziness everywhere, wish I had brought a camera.

I did get about three hours of work done on the book today. Mostly image/screen captures and cleanup. I will spend some time every day this week on it.

I am tired now after not sleeping very much last night, Aaron Todd & I stayed up drinking Bushmills and spinning records. Vicki is cooking a huge dinner tonight of beef stew, I am about to go get my grub on!!!

No Cowboys in SF [Oct. 8th, 2006|01:30 pm]
This sucks. The local TV station isn't allowed to broadcast the Cowboys/Eagles game due to some silly NFL policy about having the local team's home game on at the same time. SO, since the 49ers are playing the Radiers in SF right now, I can't watch the Cowboys game. That sucks! I am, however, listening to Brad Sham online via NFL Field Pass. Next best thing.

lovefest [Sep. 24th, 2006|11:36 am]
LoveFest yesterday was fun. Aaron and I left the house around one, took the train downtown and cabbed it over to where the floats were passing by. About 20 floats, all with DJs & soundsystems (some much better than others), cruised down market street and ended up in this square block in front of City Hall. Freaks were everywhere. It was pretty awesome just moseying around with thousands of people in the middle of downtown, listening to the DJs and people-watching. After paying $8 for a rum+coke though, I snuck out and went to a liquor store to by a pocket-sized bottle of Morgans which lasted me the afternoon and saved me some cash. Good move, D!

I ran into Jackie Specht (!!) and her crew in Denver who were down for the weekend. Both her and Chris are doing well, she said. I met her boyfried Chad who is extremely tall. He was nice enough to kick me down a beer from his backpack. I lost track of them after about an hour, but it was cool to bump into a familiar face. Phone reception was nil so I was never able to catch up with Aaron, Jenny, Fiona, or Chad who was in town from Austin. However, later that evening I wandered back to the train, I stopped into a Chinese joint for some noodles and when I sat down to eat, Chad was literally sitting at the table next to me. Quelle coincidence!! We finished eating and I went with him over to Ken's place for like an hour. Ken had a gig that night, and I planned on possibly heading back downtown after going home and freshening up. I got back home around 9:30 or so, and the next thing I know it is 3:00 AM and I'm passed out on my bed, fully clothed. Guess I was more tired than I thought! I did TONS of walking and dancing yesterday and it was great exercise. All in all, it was a great day.

Just got back from eating a greasy breakfast with Aaron at this hilltop diner up the road. About to spend the rest of the day working on the book.

book [Sep. 22nd, 2006|05:53 pm]
Making good progress on the book. I'm over 50% done now, I'd say. I've finished chapters 2 thru 6. Chapter 6 was a beast, about 14,000 words and tons of code samples. The rest of the book (besides chapter 1, which will mainly be overview material, plus some general ramblings and pontifications) is stuff that I'm not as familiar with, so this weekend, when i'm not acting a fool at LoveFest, I'm going to be poring over PDF documentation and tooling around on our beta site. Good thing the Cowboys have a bye this week...

chicago [Sep. 18th, 2006|04:28 pm]
just returned from my first visit to chicago, and it was a fun trip. about 16 of us in all. originally this was to be jeremy's bachelor party, but after the wedding was cancelled it turned into a guy's trip to chicago. which is all well and good.... i needed the break.

i caught up with lots of dallas buddies, and it was great to hang out with my brother. went to a cubs game on friday - wrigley field is classic!! it was weird being in a professional stadium with no jumbotron and a capacity of only ~40,000. did some shopping on michigan avenue afterwards and got some great deals on some shirts and a new pair of jeans. went to the top of the sears tower on saturday before heading to ESPNzone (sportsbar/arcade/shop), which was not as cool as i expected, but we stuck around to watch some college football and have beer.

had to get my fix of house while in town. danced to kerri chandler friday night and dj heather saturday night. they serve until 4am in chicago and the bars stay open until 5. the clubs were definite highlights, i hadn't grooved that much in months!! i stayed at the hard rock hotel with brian and we did some damage to the mini-bar. great to hang w/ brian for a few days, we've been friends since we were about 10 years old.

the only bad thing about the weekend was that i had to miss my baseball team's playoff games - the championship no less!! we won the title, sweeping the padres 2 games to none in a best of 3 series, but i wasn't able to be there. i will definitely be at the team celebration though. i might even be the one to organize it.

labor day weekend [Sep. 4th, 2006|08:06 pm]
my weekend consisted of going to a club on friday, spending all day saturday painting the kitchen (which finally is looking ok, just need to replace the seat cover), sunday & today i worked on the book - got about 6000 words written, and last night we had a fun little shindig at the casa. about a dozen people came by. wil b, john, wu, ricky&helen, mercedes, rock, jessie (who streaked butt ass naked down the street - TWICE), alan, dan and his friend kim were all rockin the house with us. definitely a nice warmup party for what is sure to be many more to come...

8am conference call with the UK tomorrow morning :( but it's my only commitment/meeting all day :)

monday [Aug. 28th, 2006|08:35 am]
We won our first round playoff game yesterday, 14-11. I was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, a walk and a HBP - I am SORE today though, I scored from second on a passed ball and the slide into home ripped holes in my knee and right hand. I also got a sunburn, and I got hit on my left elbow by a fastball, so that's hurtin today too. Just popped an Advil and put one in my pocket for later.

Next weekend is Labor Day, so no games. The playoffs continue the next weekend, there are four teams left.

home today [Aug. 24th, 2006|09:55 am]
I'm feeling slightly better than yesterday, the splitting headache is gone, but I started getting cold/flu symptoms last night, including fever and nausea, so I'm playing it safe and working from home. My appetite is back, which is a good sign.

headache [Aug. 23rd, 2006|05:42 pm]
well apparently the root canal has taken a toll on me, starting at ~5pm yesterday (about 24 hours after the operation), i've had the worst headache EVAR. i slept from 6 pm until 9 this morning, minus a quick break for soup. called in sick at work, and have just been in bed all day, with a throbbing head. i guess its my body's reaction to getting all drilled and scraped - maybe its getting back at me for putting it through that! it's better now that this morning, but it's still preventing me from doing anything besides just laying around. definitely no fun...

root canal [Aug. 21st, 2006|10:33 pm]
today's root canal wasn't that bad. the anesthesia hadn't fully kicked in when he started drilling and digging, but after about two minutes it had, and i didn't feel a thing after that. in and out in about 45 minutes. straight to the drugstore to pick up my vicodin. now, i'm definitely chillin...

sunday [Aug. 20th, 2006|06:01 pm]
had our last regular season baseball game today, which we won 7-6. i got the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 9th, hopefully breaking a 1 for 12 slump i had been in!! playoffs start next weekend.

spent yesterday in aptos at vicki's, she had a little gathering that was relaxing and fun. she cooked korean beef, green curry, shrimp&pasta, fruit salad, and some bomb ass coconut macaroons. gonna have a baseball team BBQ there next saturday, for a little team bonding before the playofffs start.

interviewing w/ mozilla on tuesday to do some international developer marketing. not expecting anything to come of it, but always good to keep the options open. plus i'm a firefox believer, so it's a company that i already believe in, so who knows...

book is comign along slowly but surely. it's tons of work but it's going to be a very rewarding experience when it's done! well - it better be, b/c that's what i keep repeating to myself whenever i need to muster up the motivation to crank out words...

hung out w/ jade after the game today, we're not hooking up anymore but still friends. took a swim in her complex's pool & hot tub which felt good after the game. took her to a landmark introduction last week, she didn't register but finds it all very interesting.

tomorrow i'm getting a root canal :/ first cavity of my life, and apparently it's a doozy! for the last week i have been eating soft foods and only chewing with the left side of my mouth. the right side is getting jealous and wants back in the action. it'll have to wait until i get my crown, after i get the root canal. thank goodness for ebay's dental insurance, they're covering 80% of the $1000 operation.

time to take a shower and go to the grocery store...

HEAT [Jul. 23rd, 2006|02:49 pm]
It's been record-setting hot here for the past two days, and it sucks.

105+ yesterday and today. Yesterday I spent a good chunk of the day hauling stuff from my apartment to the dumpster, preparing for next weekend's move. Today I played nine innings of baseball, making sure to chug a bottle of water between innings. My teammates are actually out there right now playing the second game of a doubleheader, but I couldn't stay b/c I'm catching a flight to Salt Lake in a couple of hours.

To make things worse, our apartment has A/C in the downstairs ONLY. And heat rises. So that means my bedroom is 90+ degrees at night when I lay down to crash. I have sweated myself to sleep the last few nights, and it has sucked! Aaron has just been crashing on the downstairs couch. I'm glad I'll be sleeping in a hotel tonight.

It isn't humid here like it is in Texas, but when the temperature reaches the levels it has over the last few days, it doesn't really matter. Outside == teh suck

Soooooo ready to move to SF next weekend...

wow [Jul. 20th, 2006|01:50 pm]
wow, haven't updated this blog in forever!!

things are good in damon-land.

played in the all-star game for my men's baseball league last night, and smacked a game-tying double w/ 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th!! we won 5-4 in bottom of 9th. fun times. season is going well, we're in first place and i'm hitting .417

i now have 176 connections on my LinkedIn account (www.linkedin.com/in/damonw), and 368 friends on my MySpace account. i have a hunch that within six months, my LinkedIn will overtake my MySpace. i'm not sure what that means, but i'm actually looking forward to the milestone! there are tons of high-quality job listings on LinkedIn, for those who haven't caught on yet.

i was on PayPal Radio on tuesday for their inaugural show. listen to the archive here: www.wsradio.com/paypalradio

i am moving to san francisco in 10 days. can't wait for the move. sick and tired of the current apartment.

have a gig tomorrow night for the party that aaron, pramod and i have been promoting, SLINKY. gonna be fun times with lots of 80s tunes and house goodness! boompty-boompty-boompty-boom.

finished 3 chapters of the book. i think it's gonna show up on amazon soon. will keep the blog posted about that.
